Clara's Marinara Sauce

Homemade marinara sauce. Simple, quick and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 14.5 oz can of imported crushed San Marzano tomatoes or mason jar fresh homemade crushed tomatoes
  • spring fresh basil
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 garlic cloves chopped
  • half medium yellow onion diced
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. in a medium sauce pot, sautée garlic and onion in the extra virgin olive oil over medium heat until the onion is translucent and garlic is tender.
  2. add fresh basil leaves and sautée with garlic onion mixture.
  3. add the crushed tomatoes and sea salt stir and simmer on medium low heat for approx. 30 minutes.
  4. if not used same day, let sauce cool completely and store in fridge for several days or freeze.

Notes

You can also use whole peeled tomatoes as substitute for crushed tomatoes. Follow recipe and when the tomatoes are boiling use an immersion blender to blend the tomatoes to make a smooth sauce.
