My favorite place to be in Italy…

There is no other place in the world I’d rather be than the Amalfi Coast. The picture above was taken when I visited in 2019 pre-pandemic, in the beautiful town of Amalfi.

Amalfi the town is situated along the famous Costeria Amalfitana (Amalfi Coast). The famous coastline stretches the northern coast of the Salerno Gulf on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The coastline is part of the Campagnia region of Italy, and in the Province of Salerno. There are many beautiful cities that sit along the coastline. Some of the famous cities located here are Positano, Sorrento, Ravello and more…

The beauty is everywhere you look. From the colorful houses and lemon grove along the cliffs and hillside making the worlds best limoncello (lemon liquor) to the pebble beaches all along the coast. The sea is breath taking and the smell of the air is sweet from the beautiuful flowers growing everywhere. I can go on and on about my love of Amalfi, but lets talk food.

The flavors and foods from this region are simple, clean and fresh. This is the staple in my cooking and baking. Using the ingredients the land and sea give you to produce the most amazing recipes. The Amalfi Coast is known for some of the best pasta dishes, seafood, desserts and of course liquors and wines. The volcanic soil, the beautiful sea and mild weather create the perfect recipe for amazing produce, grains and fish.

My favorites foods from this region are Mozzarella di Bufala, Frutti Di Mare either fried or in a risotto, Pizza Napoletana, Scialatielli All’Amalfitana, anything Eggpplant, Sfogliatella and Babá. All these are made with ingredients from the land or sea. Simple, clean eating.

But foods are not the only items produced here, there are also delicious liquors and wines. Amalfi lemons are the bet known for making Limoncello, an Italian liquor that is a digestivo (after-dinner drink). It consists of lemon peels from the delicious Amalfi lemons, sugar, and ethanol alcohol. Tradition is to have after your meal to help aid the digestive process. Sorrento is my favorite place to sip limoncello. The is a whole street dedicated to many limoncello makers and the also have other flavors like melon and strawberry. So yummy…Cin cin

Ti amo Costeria Amalfitana…a presto!
